Distant soil, shared horizon, 2024, Two-channel video installation
In these artworks, we explore our individual histories and the nature of our relationship as both artists and life partners. The setting is Rogów, Poland, where we filmed a piece of land significant to Weronika's heritage—a blackcurrant plantation that transitioned into a woodland and a cereal field. Upon our engagement, Weronika's parents committed to transferring these lands to Lukas as a form of dowry. Although the screens suggest our co-presence, there's never a point of convergence in the imagery where we simultaneously occupy the space or acknowledge each other. On the canvas, Lukas engages with the landscape through painting. The location, affectionately nicknamed 'Ponderosa' by Weronika's family, is a nod to a TV series from the early 2000s by the creator of Bonanza, David Dortort. Weronika intricately embroiders the site's blueprint using linen thread and weaves together the past and present, symbolically binding the land's history with our shared future.
